A: Your ears will be examined to determine the consistency of your ear wax. If the wax is really soft and you have no contraindications, irrigation maybe the preferred method. If you have have dry, hard or impacted wax then microsuction can be the preferred option. Sometimes a combination of both can be required. You will always be advised which method would be best but if you have a preference for a certain method we will always offer this first.
A: This depends on the type of wax and depth into the canal, but yes, generally it is cleared with one visit. If the wax is too impacted and dry you maybe required to apply some olive oil to soften the wax prior to a follow up visit. Additional visits may incur an additional cost.
A: A history of any ear problems will be identified and discussed. Your ears will be examined to check for infection and to determine the type and depth of wax. We will then discuss the best option for treatment. You will be asked to sign a consent form prior to treatment.
A: The removal of ear wax has been known to make preexisting tinnitus worse. In very rare cases it can cause tinnitus. Any rare effects of microsuction should not last long.
A: Removal of ear wax via microsuction is generally a comfortable and exceptionally safe procedure which is well tolerated by the majority of patients, however no ear wax removal treatment is totally risk free.
